4 Walls and a Roof

4 Walls and a Roof

For someone whose home has been destroyed, their world … just folded.

Black Hawk Cares Foundation’s Mission is to provide “four walls and a roof” (not just a tent) to those in desperate need: a semi-permanent home, with fully functioning kitchen and bathroom … deployed and set up … inside a few days.

Donation About

How do we do this?

How do we deploy these homes so fast?

We partnered with Housing Made Simple™ who has now brought to market one of the first tailor-made housing solution to satisfy 3 seemingly contradictory needs:

  • To make the “housing solution” not just a “housing solution,” because displaced families don’t need a “housing solution,” they need something more. A home.
  • To ensure that the home can be transported to a potentially hard-to-reach disaster zone almost as quickly as it would take to get a tent there…
  • To make the process of deploying (and paying for) the home simple, pre-planned, and cost effective; without further financial hardship or stress on those in need.

The Black Hawk Cares Foundation

The mission is that while their world has just folded, the solution unfolds before their eyes. Literally.

Housing Made Simple has developed several innovative solutions.

We have two rapid deployment units ready to meet this need:

The SwiftBuilt™ Rapid Response™ Line is designed for rapid deployment in emergency scenarios, ideal for housing displaced individuals, transitional housing, or serving as command centers during disaster response. Each unit features a collapsible design, making shipping and storage easy and cost-effective.

Each home arrives at its destination flat-packed. It’s ingeniously designed and occupies so little space (before it’s “unfolded”) that we can fit ten, yes ten … homes in one shipping container. (The cost of shipping one of our homes is thus a fraction of the cost of transporting a regular pre-fabricated house, or “tiny home”.) And it can be unfolded … in around 30 minutes.

The SwiftBuilt Rapid Response Housing line
The SwiftBuilt ExpandX housing line

The SwiftBuilt™ ExpandX™ Line offers flexible, modular living spaces from 400 to 785 sq ft. Designed for post-disaster housing, transitional housing, short to long-term occupancy, or specialty uses like remote offices, clinics, and event support.

These mini marvels are called ExpandX because the structure expands to create a 21ft x 20 ft spacious unit with 2 bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom, in this case with the ExpandX Highland™. And it can be unfolded … in around an hour. (The fitment of bathroom and kitchen units takes a little longer, but can be ready for use in well under a day.)

Lets Go!

Additionally, Housing Made Simple has kickstarted this campaign by donating the first 7 units (over 55K in-kind donations), (3) SwiftBuilt Rapid Response and (4) ExpandX Highland to Black Hawk Cares Foundation to launch this campaign and immediately help families in crisis from Hurricane Helene in West North Carolina.

What Campaign, you ask..?

Give the gift of living

How you, your family, group, and other families can provide a home for a homeless family.

4WallsAndARoof.org

The Black Hawk Cares Foundation, in association with Housing Made Simple, invites you to participate in something audacious and life changing this season.

You have seen the utter devastation that Hurricane Helene inflicted on parts of the east coast, chiefly North Carolina.

Thousands of big-hearted Americans have generously donated money, food, clothing, and essentials to keep these stricken families alive. But many of them are still existing in tents. And … it’s getting colder.

What they really need is “4 walls and a roof.”

And we have a dream, a goal, of ensuring that 50 (fifty) families get a warmer, more substantial home this season.

Family First

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to mobilize your family, and your friends’ and neighbors’ families to be directly responsible for delivering happiness and security to a family without a place to call home.

The gift that keeps on giving

The purpose of the house we donate is to ensure that families with nowhere to live have a home. They may stay in that home for many months, maybe a year. But after their old home gets re-built or they find a new permanent home, we take the house back, fold it up and place it in storage, ready for the next emergency. Unlike traditional modular structures, just as it is assembled, it can be rapidly disassembled, without impacting its structural integrity… The entire way, know this: The house you help to donate will be keeping families safe for many, many years to come. Think 20+ years.

So … if you’re ready to roll …

Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to mobilize your family, and your friends’ and neighbors’ families to be directly responsible for delivering happiness and security to a family without a place to call home. Once you have your “team” committed, go to 4WallsandaRoof.org or BlackHawkCares.org and go to "Contact Us":

  1. Use the "Contact Us" page to reach out and let us know what you want to start a group fundraise.
  2. We will send you a webform - Start with - give your family, group of families, church group - a name. (It could be the Jackson Family, or a name you choose, like Pickle Ball Club, Highpoint Church crusaders, or whatever.) List the members of your group, with emails, so we can keep you informed on the progress of your house. Tell us what you would like your campaign page to say and upload a photo to represent your team or mission. You will receive a customized webpage with a unique web address (URL) for your team to share with friends and family to raise donations to fund the home you are donating to 4 Walls and a Roof.
  3. You choose an available region in need where you’d like your house to be deployed.
  4. You choose the house you’d like to deploy there - from the 156 sq ft “SwiftBuilt™ Rapid Response”, to the more spacious 400 sq ft “ExpandX™ Highland”, with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
  5. The SwiftBuilt™ Rapid Response requires a target of $14,000 to be reached, the ExpandX™ Highland carries a target of $30,000. This includes the site prep, delivery, installation, plumbing and electrical hook up as well as a furniture and fixtures budget for adapting the units to the specific need.

  7. As the house is constructed in the factory, we can (at your option) put the name of your group on it - and the house will bear that name forever.
  8. You’ll be able to observe the progress of your group’s donation levels on a “meter” showing you how much of your house has been funded.
  9. Once your campaign has been set up, you and your team will be able to monitor the fundraising progress, the deployment status of your donated home once completed, and even how many you have helped over the life of your donated home, all via your donor dashboard on the Black Hawk Cares Foundation’s web platform.
